DUTIES OF THE BOARD

 The Board of Directors is the Governing body of the SGA and has general operational control and responsibility for the association.

The Board is responsible for setting the direction of the organization and ensuring it stays on course to achieve its goals. Directors have a fiduciary obligation to the corporation.

The Board is made up of 14 Directors: the SGA's President, the Ranking Vice President, and 12 Directors who are elected yearly at the October General Meeting.

The Board is responsible for overseeing the governance and key operations of the Students’ General Association. It holds the authority to approve the annual budget and set the association’s ancillary fees. The Board also recognizes and ratifies student clubs while serving as the sole legal sponsor for all Executive elections. In addition, it creates and enforces SGA's policies to ensure effective management and accountability within the organization.

The Board also has further duties and powers set out in the SGA's constitution, the standing orders, and the board policies.

Governance Committee

The Governance Committee supports effective governance within the SGA by overseeing Board training, executive transitions, and relationships between the Board, Executive team, staff, and auxiliary organizations. It provides oversight to the Executive team, serves as a liaison between groups, conducts bi-annual executive evaluations, and ensures alignment with the Auxiliary Organization Policy.

DIRECTORS SIT ON A VARIETY OF COMMITTEES WHICH GOVERN DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THE SGA OPERATION.

Policy and Constitution Committee

The Policy and Constitution Committee is responsible for reviewing, developing, and revising SGA policies. The committee provides recommendations to the Board of Directors on policy matters and reviews proposed amendments to the SGA Constitution in accordance with Article XI of the Constitution.

Clubs Committee

The Clubs Committee is responsible for reviewing club ratification applications and providing recommendations to the Board of Directors. The committee also reviews requests for additional club funding, supports clubs with concerns or issues, and provides recommendations to the Board when needed.

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee is responsible for overseeing the annual audit of SGA funds and may request additional audits when necessary with approval from the Governance Committee. The committee presents audit reports at General Meetings for review by the membership.

Elections Committee

The Elections Committee is responsible for reviewing election-related appeals, addressing concerns or violations during the election process, and interpreting election rules and procedures.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for reviewing the financial activities of SGA on a regular basis and supporting responsible financial planning. The committee works with staff and the Executive team to prepare the annual budget for approval at the beginning of each fiscal year.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative work of the SGA in accordance with the SGA Constitution.
