Vice President Advocacy

About the Vice President Education

Hello everyone!

I’m truly honoured and excited to begin this new chapter as the Vice President Advocacy. As I enter my third year with the SGA, I can honestly say that the journey to this role has been anything but ordinary,  and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I started my SGA experience 2 years ago as an Administrative Assistant, then transitioned to Associate Vice President, and now, I will be continuing my second year on the executive team. Through each role I’ve held, one thing has remained constant: my commitment to being present, actively listening, and ensuring that all SGA students, whether online or in-person, are represented and supported. That dedication not only guided my work, but helped me discover a genuine passion for student government. Like many students, I was hesitant at first; stepping outside of my comfort zone felt intimidating. But it’s through those moments of uncertainty that I’ve grown the most, and found where I truly belong.

Student advocacy isn’t just about holding a title; it’s about participating in meaningful change. It’s about being a voice for those who feel unheard and working to break down the systemic barriers that impact our student community. I believe that education is a right, not a privilege and that all people, regardless of where they live or come from, deserve the opportunity to embark upon post-secondary education. With that, I am truly excited to get started on the many initiatives I have planned for the 2025-2026 academic year.

To anyone feeling unsure about getting involved in student government or hesitant to speak up, I’ve been there. But sometimes, it’s that unexpected moment, a new opportunity, a club, a conversation, that reveals your voice has power. Advocacy starts small: asking a question, sharing an idea, standing up for someone else. Be open to growth. Be willing to use your voice. Take that first step. You never know how far it can go or who it might uplift along the way.

At its core, advocacy is not about having all the answers or achieving perfection. No one has everything figured out, and mistakes are an inevitable part of the journey. Meaningful growth arises from consistently showing up, remaining open to new perspectives, and embracing the willingness to learn. It is through these experiences, that we create the thoughtful, effective advocacy.

And always remember: everything happens for a reason.
