About the President
Hi, I’m Sherifa, a first-year Biomedical Biology student, fluent in both English and French, and your current SGA President, at your service.
I didn’t step into this role because I had all the answers. I stepped in because I’ve asked the same questions many students do: Where do I fit in? Who’s listening? How can we make things better? That’s why I’m here today, not to speak over anyone, but to create space for students to be seen, supported, and involved.
This role isn’t just a title. It’s a responsibility. As President, I also act as the CEO of the SGA/AGÉ. That means I help manage daily operations, lead strategic planning, support student initiatives, and build connections with government, community partners, university staff, and other student unions, all with one goal: improving student life at Laurentian.
In reality, I am only the voice representing you when decisions concerning students are made for the benefit of those. That being said the SGA is a collective effort where I work alongside an executive team, a Board of Directors, and permanent staff to advocate for you, and so everything we do is shaped by what we hear from you.
Like many students, I’m navigating the rhythm of university life, from lectures and deadlines to new experiences and personal growth. Staying connected to that shared experience is important to me. Whether it’s an idea, a question, or just a quick hello, feel free to reach out at sgapresident@laurentian.ca or stop me in the hallway. I’m here to listen, learn, and grow alongside you.
Right now, my focus is on the things students consistently say matter most, that is, stronger academic support, accessible financial tools like tax clinics and budgeting resources, improved mental health services, and a student centre that feels truly inclusive and welcoming. These priorities build on the work already being done, and I’m here to help carry them further with care, consistency, and intention. I see this role as part of a larger journey, one shaped by many student voices and leaders over time, and I’m proud to keep that momentum going with fresh energy and a shared purpose.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your voice matters, it does. Whether it’s coming to an event, stopping by the VDesk, or simply reaching out, there’s always space for you here. This is your SGA, and your presence helps shape it.
Real change begins when even one student chooses to get involved, and I’ll be here, walking with you, every step of the way.
