About the AVP of Student Life
Hi everyone! I’m Isaiah Akande, and I’m the Associate Vice President of Student Life at the SGA.
I’m a final year Psychology student at Laurentian, and honestly, I just really enjoy bringing people together and making student life feel exciting and welcoming. Whether it’s planning events, hosting parties, or just helping students feel like they belong here, I’m all about creating good vibes and real connections. That energy is what drives everything I do.
In this role, I get to help plan and bring to life some of the biggest and most fun moments on campus, like Welcome Week, student socials, cultural events, and everything in between. Whether it’s kicking off the semester with a bang or creating chill spaces to relax and connect, I’m all about making sure student life is active, inclusive, and full of good vibes.
I’m originally from Nigeria, and being part of the student community here in Sudbury has taught me a lot. It’s not always easy being in a new space, but finding good people and good vibes makes a huge difference. That’s a big part of why this role means so much to me; I just really want students to have fun, feel like they belong, and know there’s always someone in their corner.
Outside of school and SGA, I’m also a DJ (Afrobeats & Amapiano are my go-to), and I love working on creative projects. If I’m not planning an event, I’m probably practicing a new set, thinking up a new idea, somewhere eating shawarma, or hitting the gym.
